Software Engineer in Linguistics

With a rapidly growing mobile device industry, especially different form factors of smart phones, Nuance offers an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer in Linguistics to create and improve mobile text input solutions.

The position will involve developing language models for Chinese text input on mobile phones.   The candidate design systems to collect and analyze corpus, analyze and optimize language models, ensure model quality, and work with the core development team to integrate models into the text input system.  The position requires a combination of strong software development skills and experience in computational linguistics and/or localization.  We are seeking an innovative individual with strong organizational skills.

The candidate will join an experienced and successful team of engineers with expertise in developing the text input solutions for mobile and embedded devices. The position is located in our Beijing, China office.

Main Responsibilities: 

1.     Design and develop language models for text input on mobile phones.
2.     Create tools to collect and analyze Chinese text corpus.
3.     Create tools to analyze and ensure model quality
4.     Define and formulate software and function specifications.
5.     Provide technical leadership in development project by guiding junior software engineers.
6.     Ensure quality code with defined coding standards.
 
Qualifications: 
1.             MS/PhD in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science or related field.
2.             3 or more years experience in commercial software development
3.             Experience in Computational Linguistics
4.             Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
5.             Strong programming skills, including proficiency with C/C++
6.             Proficiency in Python, Perl or similar scripting language is helpful.
7.             Self-motivated with strong ability to work independently.
8.             Experience in technical leadership and coordination.
9.             Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Sr software Engineer - algorithms

Nuance offers an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Software Algorithms Engineer to develop and improve Chinese handwriting recognition systems in the rapidly growing and changing mobile device industry.
This person will provide leadership in creating a best-in-class handwriting recognition product. The position requires strong experience with algorithms related to machine learning, recognition, and related topics, combined with strong programming skills to support productization. Our goal is to significantly reduce error rate for Chinese users of handwriting recognition on mobile devices. Versatility is needed to be able to work on core text input algorithms as well as contribute to the creation of the product interfaces and SDKs. The candidate will be involved in all parts of the development lifecycle, from preliminary research to release.
The candidate will join an experienced and successful team of engineers with expertise in developing the text input solutions for mobile and embedded devices. The position is located in our Beijing, China office.

Main Responsibilities include:
1 Design and write code to develop handwriting recognition product
2 Create of tools necessary to collect and analyze data, and train models.
3 Design and develop handwriting recognition algorithms
4 Act as consultant to test team in the creation of software tests.
5 Write system design documents
6 Maintain and develop the software engineering process.
7 Provide technical leadership in development project by guiding junior software engineers.

Qualifications:
1 BS/MS in Computer Science or related field, with emphasis on machine learning and/or recognition
2 Strong mathematical and algorithms background.
3 3 or more years experience in commercial software development.
4 Proficiency with C and/or C++.
5 Knowledge of Python, Perl or similar scripting language is helpful.
6 Strong problem solving skills.
7 Self-motivated with ability to work independently and with others.
8 Experience in technical leadership and coordination.
9 Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Preferred skills:
1 Knowledge of Python, Perl or similar scripting language is helpful.
2 Experience in problems associated with linguistics and localization a plus.
